Upper Arm Surgery Following Massive Weight Loss
Dr. Nick Slenkovich - Denver Plastic Surgeon
Dr. Slenkovich uses three different approaches to correcting saggy upper arms:
- Liposuction. While not common, liposuction can sometimes be all that is necessary.
- A "mild" brachioplasty whereby Dr. Slenkovich makes an incision under the armpit and removes excess skin. This leaves a scar only under the armpit. Often this is combined with liposuction.
- If more skin needs to be removed from the upper arm, Dr. Slenkovich performs a full brachioplasty, resulting in a scar along the inner part of the arm. While this scar is somewhat more visible, most patients feel it is a small price to pay for having full, tight upper arms.
Brachioplasty After Weight Loss: Is It For Me?
You may be a candidate for arm lift in Denver if you have loose skin on your upper arms that makes you feel self-conscious. Through the brachioplasty procedure, the redundant tissue can be removed, creating a firmer, more youthful arm appearance.
Brachioplasty Procedure
Dr. Slenkovich typically performs arm lift as an outpatient procedure. He begins the surgery by administering sedation and general anesthesia. He then makes incisions in the armpits and/or upper arms, removes excess skin and fatty tissue, and carefully closes the incisions. Special bandages are wrapped around the patient’s arms. These bandages are worn for several days. Most brachioplasty patients fully recover within four weeks, although many of them resume light activities within two weeks after their treatments.
