Breast Lift
What Does a Breast Lift Do?
A breast lift, or mastopexy, is intended to give the patient an elevated, more youthful breast contour and nipple position. Additionally, the pigmented areas around the nipples, the areola, are typically reduced in size.
Are You a Candidate for a Breast Lift?
If your breasts are sagging because of past pregnancies, genetics, or aging, if your breast sagging is too great to be treated with an implant alone, or if the pigmented areas around your nipples (called the nipple areolar complexes) are enlarged, you may be a candidate for a breast lift.
How Is the Breast Lift Procedure Performed?
A breast lift is done on an outpatient basis in the Denver office under sedation or general anesthesia. Dr. Slenkovich tailors his approach to each patient, but typically the scars are limited to a "lollipop" pattern (around the nipple areolar complexes and vertically down to the crease below the breast. The breast lift patient goes home with light dressings.
What Is Recovery Like?
Initial discomfort from a breast lift is easily controlled with oral medication. Light activities may be started in 7-10 days. Aerobic activities can often be resumed in about four weeks.
Is Insurance Available?
Insurance coverage is usually available when associated with treatment of breast cancer or as a symmetry operation for the breast opposite a breast with cancer.
A breast lift for cosmetic reasons usually is not covered by insurance.
