Injection Lipolysis / Lipodissolve
What Does It Do?
Sometimes called "non-surgical" liposuction, Injection Lipolysis or Lipodissolve is able to melt away small areas of unwanted fat away from below the skin. Differeing significantly from "Mesotherapy," in which substances are injected into the skin, Injection Lipolysis is performed with a carefully formulated mixture that is injected just below the skin. The result is an even and long-term reduction of fat in the area of treatment.
What Body Areas Are Appropriate for Injection Lipolysis / Lipodissolve?
Probably the best areas are small, soft collections of focal fat deposits in normal or near-normal weight healthy persons. These commonly include the hips or "love handles," the lower abdomen or tummy area, back or bra "roll" areas, and the inner thighs. If the fat of the male breast, the upper arms or the lateral thigh areas is soft, these are potentially other good areas for Injection Lipolysis or Lipodissolve.
Additionally, the area under the chin and in many cases a small area of jowls of the lower cheek are also excellent areas for treatment.
There is also evidence that Injection Lipolysis / Lipodissolve can cause skin tightening in areas of cellulite or laxity.
The bottom line is that Dr. Slenkovich needs to "see you with his fingers" to be able to give you the best idea how well an area is likely to respond to treatment.
Are You a Candidate?
If you have small areas of excess subcutaneous fat that is resistant to diet and exercise, you may be a candidate for Injection Lipolysis / Lipodissolve. One of the most important critera for treatment is an honest understanding of what can and cannot be achieved. If you are significantly overweight, looking for an immediate result or expect to treat a large area, you are likely to be dissapointed.
If, by contrast, you have smaller areas for treatment and understand the anticipated treatment course and the likely need for more than one injection session (range is typically 1-4 injections in the area of treatment), you may be an ideal candidate.
How Is the Procedure Performed?
Injection Lipolyisis / Lipodissolve is performed on healthy individuals as an outpatient treatment. A topical anesthetic numbing cream is used to dull the sensation of the injections, and optionally a sedative can be given orally. If no sedative is required, in some circumstances you may be able to drive yourself home after treatment.
The actual treatment is performed with tiny needles to inject a solution containing Phosphytidlcholine in a mixture with Deoxycholate (or PCDC) about 10mm below the skin into the subcutaneous fat.
What Is Phosphatidylcholine Deoxycholate (PCDC) and Is It Safe?
Phosphatidylcholine Deoxycholate (PCDC) has been established in well over 50,000 treatments of Injection Lipolysis as a safe treatment with an extremely low rate of complications.
The "PC" part of PCDC, or Phosphatidylcholine, has been used for many years as in intravenous therapy to treat fat blockage of arteries (fat embolism), and is an integral fatty acid occuring naturally within our bodies. The "DC" of PCDC is Deoxycholate, a detergent that is felt to enhance the effectiveness of Phosphatidylcholine based Injection Lipolysis.
What is Mesotherapy and How does Injection Lipolysis / Lipodissolve Compare with Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy commonly refers to the injection of up to 200 or more different compounds into the skin (or "mesoderm") for homeopathic indications to cure or treat a number of medical ailments. By contrast, Injection Lipolysis / Lipodissolve refers to a specific treatment using a precisely prepared PCDC compound injected below the skin. Dr. Slenkovich is a member of the International Society of Lipolysis Therapy and is registered as a trained member of the Network Lipolysis. Network members have joined together to advance the science and outcomes in the promising area of Injection Lipolysis / Lipodissolve therapy.
What Is Recovery Like?
Initial discomfort from injection is typically minimal. After injection, a slight burning sensation is noted that generally diminishes within the first hour. For the next several hours and days, recovery is not unlike recovery from liposuction (although commonly liposuction is performed over a larger area or number of areas).
Swelling and a variable amount of bruising is expected, and is evidence that fat cell lysis is indeed occuring! It is uncommon to have any significat pain after lysis is completed by about three days. During this time, ibuprofen or a mild narcotic provide pain relief, and dressings most commonly consist of taping of the skin or occasionally a compression garment.
The final result is seen gradually over a period of 6-8 weeks, at which time an additional Injection Lipolysis or Lipodissolve treatment can be performed.
Financing:
Injection Lipolysis / Lipodissolve is commonly less costly than a formal liposuction procedure. Following a consultation, we can make a recommendation that best fits your needs and goals. Because there is no anesthesia or operating room fee and the injection session is relatively brief, Injection Lipolysis / Lipodissolve is accordingly less expesive that surgical liposuction.
