Tummy Tuck/Abdominal Tuck

What Does It Do? A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is intended to result in a smoother, flatter abdomen. Dr. Slenkovich excises abdominal fat then carefully addresses laxity of the abdominal muscles by direct suture tightening, thereby creating an internal corset.

Tummy Tuck is often recommended when a Body Contouring After Massive Weight Loss patient would benefit from complete removal of an area of fat and skin below the belly button, particularly if there is laxity of the abdominal wall musculature.

Are You a Candidate? If you have loose or sagging abdominal wall skin, or are unable to tighten your abdominal wall skin with exercise, you may be a candidate for a tummy tuck. For many patients, a tummy tuck with liposuction has the potential for a more dramatic improvement than liposuction alone.

How Is the Procedure Performed? Abdominal tuck procedures are tailored to each person's anatomy. Surgery is often performed under general anesthesia. Outpatient versus short-stay hospitalization is individualized to each patient's needs. In the majority of cases, a swath of skin with all of it's underlying fat is excised, and additional excision of fat is performed along with contouring of the trunk with liposuction. Laxity of the muscles is carefully addressed with direct suture tightening, creating an internal corset.

What Is Recovery Like? An abdominal tuck can be one of the more uncomfortable plastic surgery procedures. Because of this, Dr. Slenkovich usually uses a pain pump that slowly infuses numbing medicine into the surgery site for the first two days. While this dramatically reduces postoperative pain, abdominal tuck surgery still requires a more time-consuming recovery. You will be encouraged to be moving and walking within one to two days. Light activity is comfortable in 10 to 20 days. Sports will not be comfortable for about six weeks.

Insurance? Unless done for medical reasons (for example, infection in the skin after large weight loss) a tummy tuck is considered cosmetic and is rarely covered by insurance.

Financing: If your procedure is not covered by insurance, we will be pleased to help you obtain financing for this procedure. We are affiliated with companies that offer financing for cosmetic surgery.

Liposuction
is Often Used
in Conjunction with Abdominoplasty

Liposuction removes unwanted fat from targeted body areas.

It is most frequently used in the abdominal area to remove unwanted fat.

It is intended to produce a permanent improvement in the contour and proportion of the treated area, along with a more flattering figure or physique.

It can be used both on patients of near normal weight and on patients who are heavier.
