Breast Enlargement
What Does It Do?
Done in the Denver Colorado Plastic Surgery Center, breast enlargement or breast implant surgery is intended to give the patient larger and more shapely breasts. Breast enhancement is one of the most popular procedures women seek, and the vast majority of women undergoing this surgery report many years later that they are very pleased and would undergo the procedure again. Women who are dissatisfied with the size of their breasts very often experience a significant psychological boost after breast enhancement.
Are You a Candidate?
If you would like to have larger breasts, you may be a candidate for breast enhancement.
How Is the Procedure Performed?
Breast enlargement is done in the Denver Colorado Plastic Surgery Center on an outpatient basis under sedation or general anesthesia. A small incision is made and a saline implant is inserted under the breast tissue or under the breast tissue and the underlying muscle.
What Is Recovery Like?
Initial discomfort after breast enhancement through implant is controlled with oral medication. Light activities can be resumed as tolerated in a graduated fashion. Aerobic activities can be started in about three weeks after breast enlargement.
Insurance?
Breast enlargement is generally considered cosmetic and not covered by insurance.
Breast Lift
What Does It Do?
A breast lift, or mastopexy, is intended to give the patient an elevated, more youthful breast contour and nipple position. Additionally, the pigmented areas around the nipples, the areola, are typically reduced in size.
Are You a Candidate?
If your breasts are sagging because of past pregnancies, genetics, or aging, you may be a candidate for a breast lift. Also, if your breast sagging is too great to be treated with an implant alone, or if the pigmented areas around your nipples (called the nipple areolar complexes) are enlarged, you may be a candidate for a breast lift.
How Is the Procedure Performed?
The procedure is done on an outpatient basis in the Denver office under sedation or general anesthesia. Dr. Slenkovich tailors his approach to each patient, but typically the scars are limited to a "lollipop" pattern (around the nipple areolar complexes and vertically down to the crease below the breast. The patient goes home with light dressings.
What Is Recovery Like?
Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication. Light activities may be started in 7-10 days. Aerobic activities can often be resumed in about four weeks.
Insurance?
Breast lift is considered cosmetic unless associated with treatment of breast cancer or as a symmetry operation for the breast opposite a breast with cancer. In breast cancer related cases, insurance coverage is usually available.
Breast Reduction
What Does It Do?
Breast reduction surgery is intended to give the patient a more attractive breast contour and smaller size, and to enhance self-image. Breast reduction is also designed to alleviate health problems associated with excessively large breasts.
Are You a Candidate?
If you have large, heavy breasts, it may cause breathing difficulties; back, shoulder, and neck pain; poor posture; bra-strap indentation; and under-breast chafing. You may be a candidate for breast reduction surgery. You may also be a candidate if excessive breast size is decreasing your sense of attractiveness and self-confidence, or if your large breasts are interfering with exercise and daily activities.
How Is the Procedure Performed?
Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The nipples along with the pigmented areas around the nipples are moved upward, and excess breast tissue, fat, and skin are removed. Dr. Slenkovich performs a limited-scar technique in the majority of patients, often eliminating the long scars underneath the breasts.
What Is Recovery Like?
The patient goes home with a bra or dressing that holds the breasts symmetrically during the initial healing period. Initial discomfort subsides daily and can be controlled with oral medication. Light activities may be started in 7-10 days. Scars typically fade in 6 to 12 months.
Insurance?
Breast reduction surgery is commonly covered by insurance (including when performed as a symmetry operation in conjunction with treatment for cancer of the opposite breast). We can help you in obtaining pre-authorization from your insurance company if you meet common criteria for insurance coverage.
Male Breast Reduction
What Does It Do?
Male breast reduction for enlarged breasts, or gynecomastia, is designed to give the patient a flatter chest with a more masculine contour.
Are You a Candidate?
If you are a man with excessively large breasts, or if you have excess or sagging tissue in your chest area following significant weight loss, you may be a candidate for male breast reduction.
How Is the Procedure Performed?
The male breast reduction procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia, but can also be done with sedation and local anesthesia. Excess breast tissue and fat can be removed using either liposuction, excision (cutting the offending tissue out), or a combination of both. Excess skin may also be excised. You'll go home several hours after surgery, to be cared for by a friend or relative.
What Is Recovery Like?
A compression vest or chest wrapping is usually needed for a week or two after surgery. Light activities may be started in 7-10 days. Aerobic activities can often be resumed in about four weeks.
Insurance?
This procedure is sometimes covered by some, but not all, insurance carriers. We will help you obtain pre-approval from your insurance company before surgery.
