Eyelid Surgery
What Does an Eyelid Lift Do?
An eyelid lift procedure, or blepharoplasty, is intended to produce a more youthful and rested appearance around the eyes. It may also widen visual fields if excessive upper lid skin has partially blocked vision.
Are You a Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?
If you have excessive, sagging, or wrinkled upper or lower eyelid skin, you may be a candidate for an eyelid lift. An eyelid lift can also be helpful if you have excess upper eyelid skin that interferes with vision, if you have lost your natural upper eyelid crease, or if you have puffy pouches of fat in your upper or lower lids that cause you to look tired or aged.
How Is the Eyelid Surgery Procedure Performed?
The procedure is done on an outpatient basis at our Colorado Plastic Surgery Center while under sedation with local or general anesthesia.
What Is Recovery From Eyelid Surgery Like?
Initial mild discomfort is controlled with oral medication. Bruising and sensitivity to light can last up to two weeks after eyelid surgery. Patients can often return to non-strenuous work in 7-10 days. Swelling disappears within two weeks. Eye makeup can be used after sutures are removed.
Is Insurance for Eyelid Surgery Available?
If eyelid lift surgery is being done to improve your field of vision, the procedure may be covered by insurance. Otherwise, the surgery is considered cosmetic, and insurance normally will not pay for eyelid surgery.
